Biography

Thordis oversees the management of consultancy services undertaken by the DCC and undertakes the delivery of consultancy contracts as well as research into data management, stakeholder needs and practices.

In previous roles Thordis has gathered extensive experience of research, evaluation and analysis within the European R&I field, within externally funded projects and initiatives, by European Commission DG Connect, and nationally funded from Technology Facilities Council (UK), Economic and Social Research Council (UK).

Thordis contributed to the RECODE project, which developed policy recommendations for driving open access to research data in Europe. The policy recommendations were overarching, as well as stakeholder specific (for Funders, Research Institutions, Data Managers and Publishers) and were the result of extensive research and stakeholder consultation in Europe, as well as third countries, i.e. United States and Australia.

Thordis contributed to the European Commission funded report on Science 2.0: Science in Transition and in March 2018 was invited as an expert panel member to the OECD Joint CSTP-GSF Workshop: Towards New Principles for Enhanced Access to Public Data for Science, Technology and Innovationfrom which the findings will contribute to an update of the 2007 OECD Principles and Guidelines for Access to Research Data from Public Funding.

In her work, Thordis has contributed to all stages of the research and evaluation process: development of objectives and indicators, as well as designing and implementing overall methodology and approach.

Thordis is published on the topic of open access to research and co-authored the book Open Data and the Knowledge Society, published by Amsterdam University Press in 2017. Thordis has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Surrey (UK), an MA in Media, Communication and Technology from Brunel University and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Iceland. Thordis is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E).
