CODATA
CODATA is the International Council for Science: Committee on Data for Science and Technology. Its mission is "to strengthen international science for the benefit of society by promoting improved scientific and technical data management and use."
The DCC joined CODATA on behalf of the UK, with informal support from a number of organisations. The UK-CODATA National Committee for the UK comprises members from:
- Digital Curation Centre
- Royal Society
- Wellcome Trust
- JISC
- British Library
- Research Information Network
- Natural Environment Research Council
- UK Data Archive
The UK also has a member on the CODATA Executive, in the shape of NERC's Mark Thorley.
Purpose of the National Committee

- Participate in bilateral cooperation with other CODATA national committees.
- Act as a cross-domain forum for science data in the UK.
- Sponsor training and development events and other workshops relevant to science data, in conjunction with others.
- Attract and stage international events of value.

Research Data Registry & Discovery Service
The DCC is working on a pilot project to develop a UK-wide registry, or catalogue, of data held in UK HEIs and established subject-focused data centres alongside the UK Data Archive and a small group of universities with working data repositories.
