Research data matters in the visual arts

Last week saw the end-of-project conference for the Jisc-funded KAPTUR project. The KAPTUR project, led by the Visual Arts Data Service (VADS), has been investigating the current state of research data management (RDM) in the visual arts and developing a model of best practice applicable to both specialist arts institutions and arts departments in multidisciplinary institutions.

IDCC13: The Power of Intelligence

The second of the 3 themes at this year’s IDCC was Intelligence, explored in a two-talk session chaired by Clifford Lynch, Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI). While intelligence and innovation are beginning to drive the data science agenda, from data mining and visualisation to open data and business intelligence, the two talks showed us that it is currently the coordination behind these efforts that remains lacking.

IDCC13: Exemplar RDM Training Exercises

The IDCC13 workshop on Designing Data Managment Training Resources took place today and was facilitated by Catherine Pink and Jez Cope from the Research360 project (University of Bath) and Hannah Lloyd-Jones from the OpenExeter project (University of Exeter). One particularly valuable part of the workshop was where each institution demoed an exemplar exercise that they have carried out during an internal RDM training session

Working with DataCite

DataCite aims to establish easier access to research data and build the profile of research data as legitimate contributions in the scholarly record. On Monday 10th September the British Library ran a practical workshop aimed at those considering incorporating DataCite services into their repository.
