We've recently pushed out a number of changes to DMPonline. While the new interface for administrators was developed by Marta and I made a few changes too, a lot of the work has come from outside the DCC. This is something we're keen to encourage.

DMPonline at OpenAIRE-COAR 2014

On 20th May 2014 I presented DMPonline at an OpenAIRE-COAR 2014 pre-conference workshop in Athens, Greece. The workshop took place in the context of the EC Horizon 2020 Data Pilot and with particular reference to the manual that the EC has provided for the pilot.

What I’d like to do here is outline some of the key points and to address some that were raised during the presentation and subsequently, and also provide links to relevant resources.

Following on from the recent unveiling of the development version of the new DMPonline, an updated version is now available.

DMPonline Development Progress

 

We've been redeveloping DMPonline from the ground up following a review of the current version. We're making good progress and have now opened up our GitHub repository and deployed our code on our development server. There's still quite a bit to do but we're expecting to make a lot of progress in the next few weeks.

CKAN for research data management

On Monday 18th February, the Jisc Managing Research Data programme, in conjunction with the OKF and the Orbital and data.bris projects, ran a workshop to provide an opportunity to learn more about CKAN and its potential for managing research data and to help Joss Winn of the Orbital project to gather requirements to evaluate CKAN for academic use.

IDCC13: Cloud Services

Immediately before lunch on Wednesday Paul Walk of UKOLN chaired a session titled Cloud Services, in which Dirk von Suchodoletz of the University of Freiburg and David S. H. Rosenthal of the LOCKSS Program presented their papers. Von Suchodoletz’s paper, co-authored with Klaus Rechert and Isgandar Valizada, also of the University of Freiburg, was titled “Towards Emulation-as-a-Service - Cloud Services for Versatile Digital Object Access”. “Distributed Digital Preservation in the Cloud” was written by Rosenthal with Daniel L. Vargas, also of the LOCKSS Program.

SPRUCE Mashup Glasgow

The SPRUCE Project held a Mashup event in Glasgow from 16 to 18 April. The event was designed to bring together developers and digital preservation practitioners so that the former could find solutions to the some of the issues being encountered by the latter. Patrick McCann attended as a developer and worked on getting Facebook content into the Malta Music Memory Project (M3P) wiki.
