Research Data Management Forum: Inaugural Workshop
Overview
In partnership with the Research Information Network we have created a new forum for the exchange of experience and best practice between the managers and technical staff from UK data centres, university repository installations and other related organisations with responsibility for the discovery, delivery and preservation of digital research output.
Membership of the forum is open and includes representatives from national and governmental agencies with responsibility for the promotion and delivery of techniques, standards and expertise for digital curation.
Principally, the forum will operate at a practical level, with a focus on issues arising from technical practice and service delivery. It is expected to provide a conduit for encouraging interoperability through the use of common standards and terminology, as well as a medium for addressing such organisational imperatives as the maintenance of appropriate skills amongst research data curators, producers and users.
The forum's first full workshop was held at Chancellors Conference Centre, Manchester, commencing late afternoon on 19 March 2008 and finishing mid-afternoon on 20 March 2008. The cost to delegates was £60.00 which covered accommodation and dinner.
The themes explored at this workshop included:
- The future shape of the research data management community
- Providing appropriate skills and effort for data curation
A briefing paper describing the background and rationale to this new forum is available.
