DCC Guest Lecture: Appraisal of Data as a Precursor to Digital Curation

John Faundeen, Archivist, U.S. Geological Survey, Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science, talked about the reasons for appraising data as well as reviewing processes developed for scientific records by the U.S. Geological Survey Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science. A tool developed to support the process has been considered a best practice by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and has been successfully applied to 24 scientific collections. The Library and Archives of Canada also requested the tool.
