DCC roadshow success

We held our first data management roadshow in Bath last week, bringing together IT directors, librarians, data managers and researchers to discuss the data challenge.Early feedback has been positive, with many people commenting they now feel better equipped to start addressing data management.Slides are available and Marieke Guy has produced a useful summary of day 2.

Tools of the Trade Workshop: Save the Date

RDMF5: Keep the Dates!

The fifth meeting of the DCC-RIN Research Data Management Forum will be held in Manchester on 27/28 October 2010. The proposed theme for this event is the Economics of Applying and Sustaining Digital Curation. More detailed information about the programme and registration process will follow in due course via the normal mailing lists and the DCC and RIN websites, but in the meantime you may wish to note these dates in your diaries.

I gather from a tweet from Simon Hodson (Programme Manager at JISC for the Data Management Infrastructure call, 07/09), that 34 bids were received for this call. With maybe 8 able to be fiunded within the funding envelope, this looks like a very strong chance of getting an extremely interesting programme.

Managing and sharing data

I really like the UK Data Archive publication "Managing and Sharing Data: a best practice guide for researchers". It's been available in print form for a while, although I did hear they had run out and were revising it. Meanwhile, you can get the PDF version from their web site. It is complemented by sections of their web site which reflect, and sometimes expand on, the sections in the Guide. The sections are:
