New £4m JISC Programme Will Support the Growth of Digital Repositories Across the UK

It was announced today by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) that a new £4m programme will continue JISC's work to encourage the growth of repositories in universities and colleges across the UK. In its 2004 report Scientific Publications: Free for All? the House of Commons Select Committee on Science and Technology hailed the creation of institutional repositories as a means of making research articles more freely available. Furthermore, it specifically praised JISC's work in exploring new models for accessing and sharing such resources.

Collection and Preservation of At-Risk Digital Geospatial Data

Steve Morris of North Carolina State University (NCSU) Libraries presented this North Carolina NDIIPP Project - conducted with the U.S. Library of Congress in conjunction with the fairly new National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP) - at the joint Digital Curation Centre (DCC)/Database Seminar held on 31 May 2005 at the University of Edinburgh.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH VISITS DCC

His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, enjoyed a visit to the Digital Curation Centre on 17 February 2005 to celebrate its launch in November 2004. Arriving at the centre in the morning, the Duke was given a short presentation before being introduced to DCC staff to talk about their activities. View several photographs of the event.
