We're pleased to announce that the DCC has just launched a new and improved version of DMPonline, our web-based tool for creating Data Management Plans.

This new release marks a major progression in terms of usability. The evaluation showed that users had difficulties creating a mental model of how the tool worked. We’ve simplified the concepts behind the tool and responded to requests to shorten the DCC Checklist and ask funder questions directly.

Taking into account feedback from existing users, we've made various changes, including:

  • a clean, easy to use interface
  • a revised data model to simplify the process of developing a plan
  • fewer questions so data management plans are quicker and easier to complete
  • improved user guidance

We are keen to hear your views so please check out the new DMPonline and let us know what you think!

The previous version is still running too so you can access any content you've already entered.

Over the coming months we'll be rolling out additional features, including:

  • An ‘other’ field to record which additional funders we should record in the system
  • Comment fields to leave notes for collaborators when sharing plans
  • Depositing DMPs in institutional repositories via SWORD
  • An API to allow integration with other institutional systems

If you would like to see any of these prioritised, have other feature requests or spot any bugs, please record details on GitHub. Alternatively you can drop us a line on dmponline@dcc.ac.uk
