Because good research needs good data

It seems fitting to write this as I take the train to Maastricht to visit our third DMPonline customer. This time last year we were putting the finishing touches to the new deployment of DMPMaastricht.

We have a great job opening at the DCC to join the DMPonline team. We're looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to lead on customer liaison and outreach.

In November 2016, I wrote about how changes in our income streams meant that we would be introducing charges for more of our services over the coming years. In August, I wrote to UK university DMPonline admin users to inform them that we would be taking action on this from November 2018. In this news item I set out further detail on how this model will apply to organisational users around the world and also to give some reassurances. In particular, we wish to make clear:

Update: slides from the webinar are available online and a recording can be accessed by registering via GoToWebinar

We’re delighted to announce that the DMPTool and DMPonline sites are both now running from the new joint DMPRoadmap codebase.

We’re very close to the first official DMPRoadmap MVP release. We pushed this out to test and did a demo of new features at IDCC last week. The DMPTool has migrated to the new code already and we are set to push into production next week!

There are some new DMP templates in DMPonline for you to look out for. These reflect the new guidelines issued by the European Research Council (ERC) and the Wellcome Trust.

The European Commission has released new Guidelines on FAIR Data Management in Horizon 2020. There are a few key changes and a new template for DMPs which has been added to DMPonline.

Interest in DMPonline continues to grow. We receive around 150 new users each month and over 30 institutions are customising the tool.

The EPSRC Policy Framework on Research Data states that project specific data management policies and plans should exist for all data.
Unlike other RCUK funders, the EPSRC does not expect DMPs to be submitted as part of grant applications, but it expects they will nonetheless be in place as part of good research practice.
