Research Data and Freedom of Information (FOI) - JISC Draft FAQs
20 October, 2010 | in DCC News
By: Angus Whyte
Following the Information Commissioner's decisions against the University of East Anglia and Queens University, Belfast in relation to Freedom of Information requests relating to research, JISC has commissioned a FAQ for researchers. Co-author Chris Rusbridge commented:- "The FAQ attempts to cover the UK and Scotland versions of both Freedom of Information Acts and the Environmental Information Regulations. Two versions have been prepared: a space-limited version for print, and a longer version for the web. These drafts are now available for consultation until 12 November, 2010. We welcome your comments on these drafts. In particular, we are interested in whether there are additional questions that should be added, and whether our explanations are clear enough (and accurate). The FAQs are aimed at researchers who might receive a request, rather than researchers who might wish to use FoI or EIR in their research. The simplest way to comment is probably on the web version, which has been mounted at http://foiresearchdata.jiscpress.org/ . This site has been set up to allow comments on documents."
