Cairo tools survey: a survey of tools applicable to the preparation of digital archives for ingest into a preservation repository
Cairo is a project funded under the 'Tools and Innovation' strand of the JISC's capital programme on Repositories and Preservation. Cairo will develop a tool for ingesting complex collections of born-digital materials, with basic descriptive, preservation and relationship metadata, into a preservation repository. The project is based on needs identified by the JISC-funded Paradigm project and the Wellcome Library's Digital Curation in Action project. It is a key building block in the partner institutions' strategy to develop digital repository architectures which can support the development of digital collections over the long-term.
NOTE: This project ended in 2008.
This survey evaluates existing tools for their suitability for inclusion in the CAIRO toolkit, including mapping to Dublin Core, PREMIS and object-specific technical metadata standards such as MIX and TechMD.

ERIS project
The development of a set of user-led and user-centric solutions to motivate researchers to deposit work in repositories was the goal of the Enhancing Repository Infrastructure in Scotland (ERIS) project. ERIS also aimed to connect repositories across the country to enable easy access to Scotland’s research output. The project ran from April 2009 to March 2011.
