New Directions in Description: Metadata Management in Practice

This presentation discusses issues and challenges in the practice of managing metadata. It covers the evolving role of metadata in the publishing and administration of electronic content and why managing the metadata for long-term growth and usefulness is important. The practical aspects of metadata management are described, ranging from developing and sustaining the framework, incorporating metadata elements and value sets into the technology, performing quality assurance and implementing change management processes. 

The presentation was delivered by Lynn Herbert M.A., MLIS, who is the Manager, Metadata Integrity Services, in the Enterprise Information Management Directorate at Service Canada.
