Data catalogues

Research data are valuable, so it pays to know what you hold and where it is located. A registry of data assets or data catalogue is a useful way to record this.

Some institutions are starting work in this area and the DCC is co-ordinating a pilot study to test approaches for a service which will aggregate metadata relating to data collections or datasets held in UK research institutions and subject data centres.

We can help you to define what metadata should be collected, which standards to use, and how the metadata catalogue should integrate or exploit existing RIM and repository systems.
