Disciplinary RDM Training
The JISC Managing Research Data programme funded five disciplinary training projects under RDMTrain. They created a body of discipline-focused postgraduate training units which can be reused by others.
The training materials they created are mapped to the lifecycle model below. The projects were:
- CAiRO - performing arts
- DataTrain - archaeology and social anthropology
- DATUM for health - health studies
- DMTpsych - psychology
- Research Data MANTRA - geosciences, social science & clinical psychology
Curate and preserve
Introductory modules, providing an overview to data management and defining 'data' for a specific discipline
Conceptualise
Modules covering data management planning
Create or receive
Modules on capturing and organising data, with some detailed software training
Appraise and select
Modules that cover selection when deciding what to preserve
Ingest
Modules that discuss the use of repositories and preparing data for deposit
Preservation action
Modules on applying documentation and metadata to research data
Store
Modules that discuss storage options for various types of data
Access, use and reuse
Modules on sharing or reusing data and associated legal issues
Transform
Modules describing types of transformation useful in the preservation of research data
