Tips on running online meetings and events [PDF]

The Digital Curation Centre has run or spoken at many webinars in the past, and staff are also familiar with several web-conferencing platforms from various international projects. In light of the COVID19 pandemic, we’ve been pooling of our knowledge to help others adapt to remote working.

The result is a practical guide on running online meetings and events. It gives a comparative overview to several platforms and offers our advice to:

  1. Define what you want to achieve from the event
  2. Choose the most appropriate platform
  3. Plan, plan and plan some more

It is really critical to test out the technology in advance. Also ensure you and your co-organisers have a plan of how things will work and who will be responsible for what. The guide includes a number of tips we have learned the hard way so you don’t have to fall into the same pitfalls!

Much more could be added and we will actively seek community inputs. A new version is expected to be published in the coming months so please give us feedback on what you need by adding comments and suggested text directly to the Google doc version
