Overview

In a similar vein to last year's conference, this year's event kicked-off with a day of pre-conference workshops on Wednesday 2 December. This was followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Microsoft Research [external] from 7.00-8.30pm in the Visions of Earth hall [external] of the Natural History Museum [external] from where visitors could ride up through the globe to browse the Earth's Treasury [external].

The first day of the conference on Thursday 3 December addressed the concept of a data-driven infrastructure for science — looking at the wide range of scale, discipline, skills, sectors, and funding. This part of the programme included invited speakers in plenary sessions together with an interactive afternoon, including a "Community Space" for posters, demonstrations and informal meetings and an opportunity to attend clinics on aspects of curation.

The second day of the conference was dedicated to practitioner approaches, solutions and models, with peer-reviewed papers in themed parallel sessions.
