Capturing the state of play on UK institutions’ research data management support

Jisc and DCC are contacting institutions on RDM support, using surveys designed to complement each other. The surveys will offer an up to date picture of the systems currently used, issues institutons want addressed. The DCC survey will track progress on RDM service provision since last year, and help build a broad picture of the sector's needs.

A conversation with the funders

The organisers of DCC’s special event, Funding Research Data Management, which took place on 25th April at Aston University, can surely claim that the essence of the debate (about what is acceptable, feasible and achievable in the use of research grant funding for the provision of data infrastructure and services) has at long last been laid bare under the light of expert scrutiny. Propitiously, in what could have proved a confrontational exercise, this eagerly anticipated conversation with the funders developed into a harmonious sharing of experience, observation and explanation that, as STFC’s Juan Bicarregui observed, should lead to greater openness and collaboration between the funders and the research community.

Defining institutional data storage requirements

On Monday the 25th of February, Jisc, in conjunction with Janet and the DCC, hosted a workshop investigating institutional data storage requirements. Prompted by a workshop organised by DCC and JISC with the RoaDMaP project at Leeds University, Angus Whyte considers how a roadmap fits alongside documentation of policy and process.

Engaging e-Science with Infrastructure

Last Friday I was at the National e-Science Centre (NeSC) for the second day of a workshop on e-Science; unfortunately I wasn’t able to get to the first day. I tweeted most of it with the Twitter hashtag #eresearch, so you might learn all you need to just be searching for that hashtag (although it is used for other things, especially by some of the Australians involved in ANDS).
