DMPonline events for 2021/2022 reviewed

Magdalena Drafiova & Patricia Herterich | 13 August 2021

Thanks to all to who have participated in our recent survey which we run to find out how do you wish us to run DMPonline events. Thanks to your replies we were able to plan the events for 2021 and in this blog post we are providing a summary of some upcoming changes and improvements.

  • Created events/DMPonline comms mailing list

We will be using new mailing list through Salesforce for sending all the calendar invites and invitations to the upcoming events. You are free to unsubscribe when you leave your organisation or get in touch with us at dmponline@dcc.ac.uk to add you to the list. It is challenging and time consuming to manage mailing lists manually and we hope this will provide everyone with enough freedom to join or unsubscribe when needed.

We have decided to have public agenda which will be shared in our invites for all our events. For DMPonline drop-ins, we have been keeping the agenda always private, but we think having a shared agenda might give you an opportunity to come back to the shared notes more easily, and add your questions or points you would like to discuss prior the session.

  • Shared agenda

We have decided to have public agenda which will be shared in our invites for all our events. For DMPonline drop-ins, we have been keeping the agenda always private, but we think having a shared agenda might give you an opportunity to come back to the shared notes more easily, and add your questions or points you would like to discuss prior the session.

  • DMPonline drop-ins

We have decided to extend DMPonline drop-ins from current 30 minutes session to 60 minutes. Most of our previous overran the allocated time and by extending them, we can ensure that in a case we have a speaker we have plenty of time for the discussion and allow everyone to engage in the topic and you can plan accordingly. Having more time will also give us more space to always keep you up to date about our most recent work, mainly showing you what have our software developers been working on and explain new features or functionalities. We are planning to spend reasonable time this year on explaining new form for online user groups taking place online. Many of you have attended the last user group, but we want to ensure that there is mutual understanding how to go about voting on new feature and spending most of the time discussing features with the highest amount of votes.

Going ahead, having longer drop-ins occasionally without a speaker might be an option too and we will use this time for discussion of new features or providing a demo.

  • Type of events

Drop-ins seem to be popular amongst DMPonline community providing an insight into how other organisations use DMPonline or in general their research data management practices as well as opportunity to network, discuss new features with DMPonline and learn about the most recent work. Going ahead, we will extend the length of DMPonline-drop ins and add occasionally a demo session during the drop-in reducing the number of events we run each year.

We will also continue running trainings after assessing the appetite and need for them, as well as more regular user groups. We will assess how much further training you might need in order to understand best how we can deliver useful user groups. We plan to continue the voting for issues in upcoming user groups and will put together more written and video materials about the concept and process of voting or adding a new feature request.

  • Sending calendar invites

We have also decided that with each event we will be sending you a calendar invite straight away so you can plan your DMPonline events ahead. If you cannot attend do not worry – you can just decline (no need to inform us though), but we want to ensure that it is automatically added in your calendar to make it easy for you to join us.

  • Guest speakers

As usual – we will be reaching out to all our subscribers who have not been our guest speaker yet to join us in the upcoming drop-ins. If you are willing to participate please email us at dmponline@dcc.ac.uk and let us know which day would be suitable for you.

Planned events for 2021 – 2022

We have planned quite few events for 2021-2022, including user groups, potential training and regular drop-ins. We will be explaining how we are running user groups during the drop-ins leading up so you do not miss the opportunity to learn how the format has changed. Furthermore, it has been some time since the last DMPonline training, and we want to find out during the first half of this year whether there is enough apetite to run a session and if so whether this would be for the newbies or more advanced for existing users.
