Digital Research Infrastructure Webinar Series: Getting to know Archaeology Data Service

Wednesday 6 May 2026

Join us to learn more about the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) from our guest speaker, Nicky Garland. The ADS is the leading accredited repository in the UK for archaeology and historic environment data, with over 25 years of experience supporting research, learning, and teaching with free, high quality and dependable resources. The ADS follows a policy of active data management and curation to ensure the integrity, reliability, accessibility of all the datasets, in order to ensure the long-term preservation and re-use of the data by the heritage sector and wider community. The ADS also works with agencies, research councils, e-infrastructure projects at the national and international level to explore new ways of connecting archives around the world and create a genuinely global network for communication across the traditional research boundaries.

Dr Nicky Garland leads training and communications at the Archaeology Data Service (ADS), developing training programmes and resources that support data depositors and connecting the wider heritage community with ADS collections and expertise. An archaeologist with extensive experience in both the commercial and academic sectors, Nicky brings specialised knowledge in research data management, digital infrastructure, and computational methods for archaeological analysis.
