CURL/SCONUL Joint Task Force on e-Research
12 December 2005 |
"The growing UK research base must have ready and efficient access to information of all kinds."
HM Treasury Science and innovation investment framework 2004-2014
What should university libraries be doing to support e-research? Come to that, what is e-research? To explore these and related issues, University Library staff were invited to join members of the new joint Task Force on e-Research, along with staff of the UK's National e-Science Centre and the DCC. We provided an overview of the grid technology that makes e-research possible; looked at the UK's national e-science programme, with particular emphasis on the data and information management challenges; and discussed the part that libraries play in supporting this crucial new approach to research.
Benefits of Attendance
This workshop was aimed at academic library practitioners and service managers below director level who want to know more about the UK's e-research agenda. Academic services managers, subject librarians, and those responsible for institutional repositories found it most useful.
Venue
The workshop took place at the King's Fund [external], Cavendish Square, London, W1G OAN.
Registration
There was no charge for this workshop as it was sponsored by CURL, SCONUL and the DCC as part of their commitment to staff development and outreach, with organisational support from UKOLN. The workshop was limited to 30 places, available on a first-come, first-served basis, although we reserved the right to limit places to one per institution.
