Objectives

To promote the widespread adoption of interoperable metadata standards, and developing specialized metadata vocabularies for describing resources that enable more intelligent information discovery systems.

Areas of Activity

Working groups operate on the following topics: Administrative Metadata, Agents, Architecture, Citation, Collection Description, Education, Government, Libraries, Registry, Standards, Tools, Type, and User Guide. In addition, there are interest groups on Accessibility, Business, Environment, Kernel/Electronic Resource Citation (ERC) and Localisation and Internationalisation.

Membership

DCMI is an open forum which characterises itself as being "built on a community of individuals from many different backgrounds and disciplines located in organisations and institutions all over the world". DCMI has a formally defined organisational structure, with a Board of Trustees, Directorate, Advisory Board and Working Groups.
