Digital Preservation Tools - request for information
Since October there has been a good reponse to the request for
evaluations of various open source digital preservation tools available
on the web. We have received offers of evaluations for Dspace, UVC,
JHOVE and Xena. Several new tools have also been added to PADI as well
as articles that have evaluated aspects of various software. However,
to make this project as informative and useful as possible we are still
seeking evaluations of other software. Please take a look at the
extensive list of non commerial software on the Digital Curation
Centre's Digital curation tools page -
/tools/digital-curation-tools/ . If you have used
any of the tools listed (or even ones that aren't), and would like to
contribute, please format your evaluations answering some or all of the
following questions -
-What do you use the tool for?
-How long have you used it?
-What functions does the tool cover?
-What are its strengths?
-Are there any suggestions for improvement?
-What level of expertise is required to use, implement and integrate the tool?
-How much user input is needed to use the tool, for example, is it fully or semi automated?
-Is the documentation good?
-Any further comments?
Rather than duplicating the Digital Curation Centre's list, we
are seeking to provide a useful complement to it, and to add to the
available knowledge about these resources.
