My reflections on IDCC from attendee to programme chair
Laurence Horton, Research Data Specialist and IDCC Programme Chair, has written a blog describing the impact of the International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC) on his professional journey. Starting as a newcomer in 2013 to becoming programme chair, Laurence illustrates how IDCC plays a pivotal role as a community hub for knowledge exchange and professional networking.

Towards a Shared Understanding of What is Necessary for Long-Term Archiving: EOSC EDEN 
Micky Lindlar, Maria Benauer, and Bertrand Caron
This Conference Paper presented at IDCC26 introduces the Core Preservation Processes (CPPs). Its thirty practical guidelines explain in simple steps what organisations should do to protect digital information. They are flexible and can be used with any system. CPPs also create a shared language that helps different communities work together more easily. Overall, they make digital preservation knowledge clearer and easier to apply, supporting better training, policies, and tools across Europe and beyond. The CPPs are an output of the EOSC EDEN project on research data storage and preservation.

Resource of the month

Chem-DCAT-AP: New metadata profile for chemical research data
NFDI4Chem started as a grassroots initiative in April 2018, driven by experts in the field after the first position paper by the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures (RfII) to establish a national research data infrastructure (Nationale ForschungsDatenInfrastruktur) for Germany. The team recently published a domain-specific metadata profile, which builds on the established DCAT-AP standard and specifically addresses the requirements of the chemical sciences.

Reducing low literacy in the UK: what learners’ personal and socioeconomic factors tell us
The Data Impact blog is run by the UK Data Service and is a hub for researchers, students, communities, policy-makers, government and anyone interested in maximising the impact of social, population and economic data in research and policy. Katherine Collier, a PhD student at Durham University, has contributed a blog that discusses how the Millennium Cohort Study is helping her explore the relationship between personal, social and economic factors and literacy in UK primary school pupils.

DCC’s Digital Research Infrastructure Webinar Series
Getting to know the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the PATH2EOSCUK Project
15:00 – 16:30 UTC+1, 23 June 2026 | Online
This webinar will introduce the concept of EOSC services and governance and provide an overview of the new PATH2EOSCUK project being undertaken by Jisc, DCC and UKRI between May-November 2026 to explore the creation of a UK EOSC node and to engage with the UK research infrastructure and support communities. Speakers include Helen Clare (Jisc), Prof Stephen Serjeant (The Open University) and Sally Chambers (The British Library), who will share their experiences and perspectives on EOSC.

Join us to learn about the Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) Environmental Data Service (EDS), a trusted UK facility providing data stewardship to ensure environmental data of long-term value are findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR). 

16 September 2026 (UPDATED TIME) - Getting to know FAIRsharing 
FAIRsharing is a manually curated, community-driven registry of data and metadata standards, interlinked with databases and data policies across all research disciplines. Dr Allyson Lister joins us as a guest speaker to explain more about the FAIRsharing project.

Registration and submissions open for PSDI & Royce Materials Data Summit
29-31 July 2026 | Manchester
The Henry Royce Institute and the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI) are hosting a three day Data Summit, which will be held from 29 to 31 July 2026 at the University of Manchester. This summit offers a platform to hear from leading experts through invited talks and provides hands-on training sessions where you can engage with the latest digital tools in materials science,

...and finally

We’ve carried news in earlier editions of Pipeline about the 27th Research Data Alliance (RDA) plenary, taking place in London this October. We expect to have a number of DCC staff present and we’re also planning a co-located event that we hope will be of interest to many attendees. Look out for more news about that in future editions of Pipeline. The RDA has been an invaluable organisation for us, enabling collaborations and co-development of standards, resources and guidance that would have been difficult to achieve without its existence. We’re proud to be founder organisational members. As a member of the programme committee I know we’ll have an excellent mix of keynote speakers and panels as well as a packed programme of the core business of the plenaries – the working and interest group sessions. 

I hope we will see many pipeline readers there. Keep up to date on developments on RDA’s plenary page.
