U of California in Talks to Join Google's Library-Scanning Project

The Los Angeles Times (8/2/03) reports that the University of California is in negotiation with Google to join the search-engine giant's book-digitization project. If the company and the university system agree to a deal — which, according to the article, could happen soon — Google could have access to as many as 34 million books within the system.
