Building bridges with BRICKS

Joy Davidson | 09 May 2006

*Digital Cultural Heritage Networks in **Europe***

Workshop
June 23, 2006
Residenz zu Salzburg

This workshop is of particular interest for decision makers in Cultural
Heritage institutions, explores the potential of networking the digital
assets of such organisations. Following a keynote speech on new trends in Digital Cultural Libraries, we will demonstrate results from BRICKS –
a project with the goal of building a European Digital Cultural Library.

BRICKS provides a network infrastructure that allows access to all resources from any node in the network and a set of components which can be used to build applications tailored to the requirements of a specific institution. This workshop covers both aspects. First, we will show a web application that uses the infrastructure directly for storing,
organizing, describing, and searching digital content. Then, the application developed for the Austrian National Library – a set of tools to build online exhibitions - will be demonstrated. A question-and-answer session and a panel discussion complete the workshop.

The workshop will take place following the conference “An Expedition to
European Digital Cultural Heritage” at the same venue.
