CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group Annual Conference 2006
"Immaculate Catalogues: taxonomy, metadata and resource discovery in the 21st century"
University of East Anglia at Norwich, 13th - 15th September, 2006.
The programme for this event includes the 5th C&I Standards Forum which will include updates on the revision of AACR2 [working title: Resource Description and Access (RDA)] - including a planned demonstration of the prototype online version - and on changes to MARC 21.
Other topics covered in the programme are: the effect of rules changes on rare books cataloguing; image, shape and multimedia resource discovery; image retrieval; user generated metadata for images databases; the role of cataloguing and classification in the LIS curriculum; SUNCAT: the national union catalogue of serials in the UK; terminology mapping ; automatic indexing and classification of texts; the Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary (IPSV); plus the CIG AGM.
The after dinner speaker at the conference dinner is Gudrun Warren, Librarian of Norwich Cathedral, while the programme also includes a quiz night and visits to one or more sites of professional and historic interest are provisionally planned for the afternoon of the 15th Sept.
