Joy Davidson | 31 July 2006

Going to ALT-C 2006 Conference in Edinburgh?

Come and discuss issues in integrating formal and informal learning with two of the world’s leading experts in e-Learning – Prof. Betty Collis and Dr. Peter Sloep from the Netherlands.

This one-day workshop held by the UK Higher Education Academy costs only £50 and takes place on September 4, 2006, the day before ALT-C, at the University of Edinburgh. Places are limited so book quickly at http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/SSeLF.htm

Prof. Betty Collis will highlight opportunities and issues in the organisational and pedagogical aspects of courses that integrate formal and informal learning, particularly relating to scalability, sustainability and assessment. She will share examples from both higher education and corporate learning sectors. Prof Collis is an Honorary Professor at the Caledonian Academy, Glasgow Caledonian University, Emeritus Professor at the University of Twente and a freelance consultant.

Dr. Peter Sloep will explore peer-tutoring for informal learning in ad hoc, transient learning communities. Particularly, he will focus on the incentive structures behind peer tutoring. Dr Sloep is a Chair in Educational Functions of ICT at Fontys University of Professional Education and is Associate Professor at the Open University of the Netherlands.

The workshop is organised in the framework of Supporting Sustainable e-Learning (SSeLF) 2006 Forum, chaired by Prof. Allison Littlejohn and Dr. Anoush Margaryan, Glasgow Caledonian University.
