The e-Science Institute is pleased to announce that Chris Date is visiting Edinburgh to take part in a two day workshop on The Closed World of Databases Meets the Open World of the Semantic Web. After the successful meeting last year hosted jointly by Oracle and the e-Science Institute in which he spoke on Temporal Databases he is returning to talk about the ‘null problem’ amongst other topics.

Chris Date is one of the world’s best known specialists in relational database technology and has authored several books including the well known:

·An Introduction to Database Systems
·Temporal Data & the Relational Model
·Database in Depth: Relational Theory for Practitioners
