TNA Seeks Digital Archivist!
Seamless Flow GMMS Analyst and Interpreter
This post will not be advertised in ARC Recruitment
An opportunity has arisen for a digital archivist to play a central role in the Seamless Flow Programme at The National Archives. Seamless Flow is the programme which seeks to automate the processes of appraising, selecting, transferring, cataloguing and preserving born digital records, and making them available to the public.
The GMMS analyst will manage the Generic Metadata Management System (GMMS) underlying Seamless Flow. The GMMS defines the metadata accompanying all born digital records, it stores and maintains that metadata, and it directs both the automatic transfer process and the presentation of records to the public.
Contributing immediately to the work involved in presentation, the post holder will work closely with a number of the teams involved in Seamless Flow. Central to the post is the ability to analyse and interpret the GMMS and to present a description of the GMMS and its functions to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
You will have experience of working with metadata and knowledge of existing metadata schema including the standards developed for e-GMS, a good understanding of XML, some knowledge of database design, experience of the interpretation of database driven information systems and a sound understanding of the standards for archival description.
This is a great opportunity for a dynamic digital archivist to work at the cutting edge of archival practice in the UK.
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 pro rata for 6 months with the possibility of extension
Closing Date: 7 August 2007
