Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) is a biennial international conference that focuses on the challenging and rapidly transforming nature of libraries and information systems and services. John Faundeen, Archivist, U.S. Geological Survey, Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science, talked about the reasons for appraising data as well as reviewing processes developed for scientific records by the U.S. Geological Survey Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science. A tool developed to support the process has been considered a best practice by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and has been successfully applied to 24 scientific collections. The Library and Archives of Canada also requested the tool.
Ronald Fagin, IBM Almaden Research Center, San Jose, presented "Operators on Schema Mappings" at 4.10pm as part of the Scottish Database Interest Group [external] seminar season at the University of Edinburgh, Appleton Tower 2nd floor seminar room (2.02). The DCC was a co-sponsor of this event.
