The Urban Big Data Centre within the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences is holding an inaugural workshop in conjunction with its official launch on 30th September, featuring three presentations from internationally recognised leaders in the field of big data and urban informatics.
The 2nd Data Management Workshop will be held from 28 to 29 November 2014 at the University of Cologne. The focus of this workshop is on (interdisciplinary) research data management.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together managers and developers of project databases, repositories or data archives, data scientists, information scientist, librarians, and funding agencies. The workshop program offers invited talks and extended poster sessions. Workshop participants are welcome to present poster contributions.
PrestoCentre Preservathons are two-day hands-on events developed around main themes and challenges in audiovisual digitisation, preservation and long-term access. During the first day, attendees will work together in small groups. Activities include workshops, roleplaying, demonstrations, presentations, writing and negotiation exercises (e.g. call for tender, SLA). Each Preservathon includes a competitive element.
Research Councils and funding bodies are increasingly requiring evidence of adequate and appropriate provisions for data management and curation in new grant funding applications. This half-day workshop provides an introduction to research data management and curation, the range of activities and roles that should be considered when planning and implementing new projects, and an overview of tools that can assist with curation activities.
