There are increasing expectations that research data will be effectively managed and shared, and doing so can bring real benefits in terms of increased citations, impact and grant income.
This workshop will introduce participants to Research Data Management (RDM) and demonstrate how to improve practice and write effective Data Management Plans (DMPs) via case studies and discussion.
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
In 2010 the US National Science Foundation (NSF) announced that it will mandate the inclusion of a data management plan with all new funding applications. The NSF is not alone in its efforts to improve accountability for data management, and we are beginning to see Research Councils and funding bodies around the world seeking evidence that adequate and appropriate provisions for data management and curation have been considered from the earliest stages of any publicly-funded activity.
The third DCC Roadshow was organised in conjunction with the University of Glasgow Library and took place from 22-24 June 2011.
Funding bodies increasingly require grant-holders to produce data management plans (DMPs). The DCC has created DMPonline, a web-based tool which draws upon an analysis of funders' requirements to enable researchers to create and export customisable DMPs, both at the grant application stage and during the project's lifetime.
The tool will be demonstrated by Martin Donnelly and Sarah Jones of the Digital Curation Centre at 13.50 - 14.05 on 13 April in the Demo Pod of Lounge 2 (Promoting Institutional Effectiveness)
The DCC is organising a series of inter-linked UK workshops aimed at supporting institutional data management, planning and training. The events will run over 3 days and will provide institutions with advice and guidance tailored to a range of different roles and responsibilities.
The first DCC Roadshow was held on 2-4 November 2010 at the Bath Ventures Innovation Centre, Carpenter House, Broad Quay, Bath BA1 1UD. The Roadshow was opened by Professor Kevin Edge, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath.
