Joy and I have just run a webinar organised by the Higher Education Libraries group of LIASA (Library and Information Association of South Africa). It was amazingly well-attended, with close to 100 participants representing virtually all of the 23 universities in South Africa and the National Research Foundation. The DCC is pleased to announce a number of new resources. The latest guide in our How-to series is:
How to Develop RDM Services - a guide for HEIs
The guide draws lessons from the Jisc Managing Research Data programmes and the DCC institutional engagements to outline the process of developing RDM services. It proposes eight components or processes to be supported:
Storage and the potential role of cloud and shared services are issues that arise regularly in the DCC's work with UK universities. We hope, therefore, that a forthcoming event we're planning in collaboration with colleagues in JISC and the JANET brokerage on storage service requirements will prove to be of interest to many.
This introductory guide to the tools and services available through the DCC will allow IT managers to begin identifying the support they need, not only from the DCC but also from other stakeholders at their institution. By working through the 5 steps IT managers will be able to establish the strengths and weaknesses of the services they currently offer and work towards offering the Research Data Management service increasingly demanded by institutions and researchers.
We're planning the DCC East Midlands roadshow and want your views to set the programme for the training day. Vote for the topics you want to see covered.
The event will take place in Loughborough in early February 2012. Further details will be on the event page once the dates have been finalised.
